Magnetic mattresses are claimed to have many health benefits and a peaceful, uninterrupted night of sleep is one of them. A magnetic mattress contains a set of embedded magnets that generates a magnetic field around the person sleeping on it. If you like to try the benefits of magnetic mattresses but your current one is working fine, you can buy a magnetic mattress pad that can be overlaid on top of your current mattress. These pads contain magnets and have the same effect. More often than not, cheap mattress magnetic pads work as well as more expensive magnetic beds.

So now that we know how a magnetic mattress work, but why do we need to be immersed within an external magnetic field? Accordingly, many people lose sleep because of chronic pain conditions but they may not be even aware of these sleep disturbances. The only thing they observed is that they feel tired in the morning even when they have went to bed more than 8 hours ago. The magnetic therapy generated by magnetic mattresses and pads are claimed to relieve some of these chronic health conditions and prevent them from disturbing your sleep. They are claimed to help improve circulation, accelerate healing and minimize pain.

A magnetic mattress pad is typically 3 inches thick and contains around 100 magnets sewn inside tiny pockets. This is a labor intensive process and a magnetic mattress pad can cost between $200 to $2,000, depending on the quality of materials used, size, number of magnets used and the manufacturer brand. A magnetic mattress generally contain the same number of magnets sewn into the upper foam layer. The size of the individual magnets are kept below one inch in diameter to prevent causing bumps in the foam that may felt by the person sleeping on top.

A correctly aligned magnetic mattress creates a strong North/South magnetic field around the mattress in order to realign the ions and radicals within the human body. This is said to have significant effects on fibromyalgia, arthritis, poor circulation, insomnia etc. While clinical evidences are still not conclusive to support all the health benefit claims of magnetic mattresses, there are no significant disputes over the safety of such magnetic therapy on the test subjects. If you have heard of someone sleeping on a magnetic mattress or pad for some time, you can try asking whether their quality of sleep has improved. Check whether if they suffer from pain around the neck, shoulder, back, or lower limb areas previously and how has their conditions improved.

Before you start out to buy a cheap mattress with magnetic properties, do check several retailers for prices. It is not a very popular item stocked by home and bedding shops, so there is not much competition driving prices down. An important point to note is that if you have a pacemaker or other electronic implants, do not use a magnetic mattress or you may put your life at risk.
